About
Dirt Flat Campground is situated on the north side of the Merced River in Sierra National Forest, offering a small, intimate camping experience with walk-in tent sites. The remote location provides a quiet and peaceful atmosphere, with most sites located directly on the river or with easy river access. Oak and pine trees provide natural shade throughout the campground. The campground serves as an excellent base for exploring nearby Yosemite National Park, located just a short distance from the west entrance. During spring and early summer months, the Merced River becomes a popular destination for whitewater rafting and kayaking, with several private companies offering guided trips. The surrounding Sierra National Forest features rolling oak-covered foothills, heavily forested middle elevations, and spectacular mountain scenery. This is a pack-in, pack-out facility with no drinking water available. Vault toilets are provided. All campsites meet accessibility standards and include picnic tables, grills, and fire rings. The campground is managed by California Land Management, with a camp host located across from nearby Dry Gulch Campground.
Directions
From Highway 140, turn onto Foresta Road (landmarks include Red Bud Picnic Area and a National Park Service warehouse). After the bridge, turn left onto the spur road, then immediately turn left onto Incline Road. Continue 1.5 miles to the campground.
