Diamond Creek Guard Station
Open for reservations through Recreation.gov. Snow conditions can affect cabin accessibility from fall through spring. Guests should call the Montpelier Ranger District at least 4 days before arrival to confirm the security combination and verify road conditions, especially November through June.
About
Diamond Creek Guard Station offers a remote cabin experience in the Caribou-Targhee National Forest of southeastern Idaho. The guard station sits in a scenic meadow at 6,900 feet elevation, surrounded by the peaks of Dry Ridge and the Webster sub-range. Stands of aspen and lodgepole pine dot the landscape, and wildlife including black bears, elk, moose, wolves, and mountain lions inhabit the surrounding forest. The cabin accommodates up to 15 guests with four bunk beds and two small lofts for additional sleeping space. A wood stove provides heat. There is no electricity, running water, or plumbing inside the cabin. A vault toilet and picnic table are located outside. Guests must bring their own drinking water, bedding, cookware, and garbage bags as this is a pack-it-out facility. The Bear Canyon OHV Trail is about two miles north of the guard station. Hikers, mountain bikers, and horseback riders will find trails nearby. Anglers can fish in Diamond Creek. In winter, the area is popular with snowmobilers and cross-country skiers. The cabin operates as a winter warming hut from December 1 through April 30.
