About

Diamond Creek Guard Station sits in a meadow at 6,900 feet elevation, surrounded by the peaks of Dry Ridge and the Webster sub-range in southeastern Idaho. The current building was constructed in the early 1990s as a snowmobile warming hut and now serves as a rental cabin accommodating up to 15 people. The cabin features four beds plus two small lofts for additional sleeping space, heated by a wood stove. A vault toilet and picnic table are located outside. Guests must be self-sufficient, as no water or electricity is available. Visitors need to bring their own water for drinking, washing, and cooking, along with bedding, cookware, kitchen utensils, and emergency supplies. The cabin is accessible by car during warmer months and by snowmobile in winter. The landscape features stands of aspen and lodgepole pine, with wildlife including black bears, wolves, elk, moose, mule deer, bison, grizzly bears, mountain lions, and pronghorn. The Bear Canyon OHV Trail is located about two miles north of the guard station, with additional trails nearby for hikers and mountain bikers. The surrounding area is popular with snowmobilers and skiers in winter months. Anglers can fish in nearby Diamond Creek, and the area attracts big game and game bird hunters. The guard station is located about one mile south of Johnson Guard Station on Diamond Creek Road.

Directions

From Soda Springs, take Highway 34 north approximately 12 miles to the China Hat turnoff at Blackfoot River Narrows. The road becomes Diamond Creek Road. The guard station is about 1 mile south of Johnson Guard Station.
