Closed — Currently closed for the winter season. The campground operates with full services from late May through early September at $8 per night. After early September, it remains open with no fee but no services including no toilets or water.

Gravel Creek Campground is nestled in a quiet valley northeast of Soda Springs, Idaho, near the Wyoming border within the Caribou-Targhee National Forest's Montpelier Ranger District. Situated at approximately 6,700 feet elevation, the campground is surrounded by a mix of pine and aspen forests offering partial shade amid the gentle slopes of the Bear River Range. The landscape offers understated beauty, with open spaces and wooded edges alive with the rustle of leaves and the chatter of birds in summer. The campground features 12 single-family sites, each equipped with picnic tables and campfire rings. Vault toilets are provided during the main season. Roads and parking spurs are gravel, welcoming tents and small trailers to this first-come, first-served outpost. There is no drinking water available, so campers must bring their own supply and pack out all trash. The area invites exploration with nearby trails for hiking and horseback riding, while streams in the vicinity offer quiet fishing spots. The remote setting promises solitude and a perfect retreat from the bustle, with the vast Caribou-Targhee wilderness stretching beyond. Access requires traveling east on ID-34 from Soda Springs for 31 miles, then navigating gravel forest roads for several more miles.

Directions

From Soda Springs, turn on ID-34 E for 16.4 miles. Turn left to stay on ID-34 E for another 14.7 miles. Turn right at Wayan Loop and go 2.9 miles. Turn right for 0.2 miles, then a slight left for 1.6 miles. The campground will be on the right.
