Mill Canyon Campground is nestled near the banks of the Blackfoot River within the Caribou-Targhee National Forest's Montpelier Ranger District, about 26 miles southeast of Soda Springs, Idaho. Situated at an elevation of 6,400 feet, the campground is cloaked in a forest of pine and aspen that offers partial shade along the gentle contours of the Blackfoot River Valley. Built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the late 1930s, this historic campground provides a serene setting for those seeking solitude in Idaho's high country. The campground offers 10 single-family sites, each equipped with picnic tables and campfire rings. Roads and parking spurs are gravel, welcoming tents and small trailers to this first-come, first-served retreat. The Blackfoot River's steady flow murmurs nearby, inviting anglers to try their luck with cutthroat and rainbow trout. Trails for hiking and horseback riding thread through the surrounding forest, offering quiet escapes into the wild. During the main season from late May through early September, vault toilets are available but campers must bring their own drinking water and pack out all trash as no water or garbage service is provided. Outside the main season, the campground remains accessible but operates with no fee, no toilets, and no water, providing a true backcountry experience for self-sufficient campers willing to embrace winter conditions.

Directions

From Soda Springs, ID, turn on ID-34 E for 11.8 miles. Turn right at Blackfoot River Rd and stay on this road for approximately 13.7 miles. Turn left and go 0.5 miles to get to the campground.
