About

Dearhamer Campground occupies a prime location in the White River National Forest, positioned along the Fryingpan River just upstream from Ruedi Reservoir at 7,800 feet elevation. The campground's 13 standard sites accommodate tents, trailers, and RVs up to 35-40 feet. Each site includes a picnic table, fire ring, and bear-proof food locker. Shared amenities include vault toilets and a potable water hydrant. The Fryingpan River below Ruedi Dam is designated Gold Medal Water by the Colorado Wildlife Commission, drawing anglers for world-class fly fishing. Rainbow, brown, cutthroat, and brook trout thrive in waters nicknamed "the toilet bowl" due to abundant Mysis shrimp from the reservoir. Special regulations apply: artificial flies and lures only, with catch-and-release required for all trout except brown trout (2 fish over 14 inches allowed). Recreation extends beyond fishing. Ruedi Reservoir offers boating, swimming, and water skiing. The Ruedi Trail north of the reservoir climbs 3,000 feet over 8 miles to Red Table Mountain, rewarding hikers with panoramic views. The resort town of Aspen lies within easy reach for supplies and dining.
