About
Davis Farm Primitive Trail Campsite is a backcountry camping spot along the Appalachian Trail in southwest Virginia. Located 0.5 miles off the AT via a steep switchback side trail, this campsite sits on a slope that has been flattened to create space for two to three tents. The site's elevation and westward orientation provide panoramic views of the valley below, making it particularly popular for sunset viewing. This is a true primitive camping experience with no facilities whatsoever. There is no water source at the campsite, no restroom, and no trash collection. Campers must be self-sufficient and practice Leave No Trace principles. The site is accessed via a fairly challenging descent from the AT, and the return climb should be factored into hiking plans. The campsite is part of the George Washington and Jefferson National Forests system along the Appalachian Trail corridor. It operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservations required and no camping fees. The pastoral setting includes the occasional sound of cattle mooing from the working farms in the valley below, adding to the rural Appalachian character of the location.
Directions
From the Appalachian Trail, follow the blue-blazed side trail 0.5 miles downhill via steep switchbacks to reach the campsite.
