About
Hungry Mother State Park, established in 1936 as one of Virginia's original six state parks, offers historic overnight accommodations in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The 25 cabins and six-bedroom lodge were constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps during the 1930s and are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Cabin options include efficiency units, one-bedroom, one-bedroom waterview, and two-bedroom configurations, while the Hemlock Haven area features named cabins with outdoor gas grills.
All cabins come equipped with full kitchens including refrigerator, range, microwave, and coffeemaker, along with dishes and cooking utensils. Each unit has a private bathroom, charcoal grill, and fireplace. Linens are not provided. The Hungry Mother Lodge sleeps up to 15 guests across six bedrooms with added amenities including a dishwasher, washer/dryer, TV-DVD, gas fireplace, and gas grill. The lodge's master bedroom is universally accessible with a private bathroom.
The park surrounds a 108-acre lake offering swimming at a guarded beach from late May through Labor Day, boat rentals, and fishing for bass, catfish, crappie, walleye, and musky. Over 17 miles of hiking and biking trails wind through the 3,334-acre park. Three yurts are also available seasonally for a more rustic experience.
