* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible. * WHERE...Portions of northwest North Carolina, including the following areas, Alleghany NC, Ashe and Watauga, Virginia, including the following areas, Alleghany VA, Bath, Bland, Botetourt, Carroll, Craig, Floyd, Giles, Grayson, Montgomery, Pulaski, Roanoke, Rockbridge, Smyth, Tazewell and Wythe, and southeast West Virginia, including the following areas, Eastern Greenbrier, Mercer, Monroe, Summers and Western Greenbrier. * WHEN...Through Thursday morning. * IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Creekside Campground sits within Hungry Mother State Park in Smyth County, Virginia, where Hungry Mother Creek winds through a shaded forest setting. The campground features 19 paved campsites, each equipped with electric and water hookups, a fire ring, and a picnic table. A bathhouse with universally accessible facilities and seasonal laundry service is centrally located. The park surrounds a 108-acre lake offering swimming at a sandy beach, boat rentals, fishing, and a boat launch. Over 17 miles of hiking and biking trails traverse the surrounding mountains. The park also features a camp store, restaurant, and visitor center. A sharp turn in the access road limits vehicle size to 30 feet maximum. The campground operates year-round and accepts reservations up to 11 months in advance through the Virginia State Parks reservation system.
Directions
From I-81, take exit 47 at Marion. Follow VA-16 north approximately 4 miles to the park entrance. Creekside Campground is located within the main park area past the entrance station.
