About
Dam Site Campground is a free primitive camping area managed by the US Army Corps of Engineers, located below Fort Gibson Dam on the west bank of the Grand River. The nearly 20,000-acre Fort Gibson Lake offers excellent boating, swimming, and fishing opportunities for black bass, white bass, crappie, catfish, and panfish. The lake's 225 miles of shoreline provide access to thousands of acres of public hunting lands. The campground features 23 basic campsites with no water or electric hookups. Facilities are limited to vault toilets, rock fire pits, and standup grills. Two group shelters are available for reservation through Recreation.gov. Campers should bring all water and supplies, as the nearest stores are several miles away. Fort Gibson Lake sits in oak-hickory woodland terrain with rolling hills typical of northeastern Oklahoma. The historic Fort Gibson, established in 1824 and now a National Historical Landmark, is located nearby and open year-round to visitors.
