About
Cunningham Falls State Park Campground provides a scenic mountain camping experience in Frederick County, Maryland, divided between two distinct camping areas. The William Houck Area campground, located near the park's lake and waterfall, features 140 campsites including 107 basic sites and 33 sites with electric hookups, along with 13 camper cabins and a camp store. The Manor Area campground offers 31 more rustic campsites. Both areas feature paved roads suitable for RVs and provide access to flush toilets and hot water showers. The park is named for its stunning 78-foot cascading waterfall, the highest in Maryland, accessible via hiking trails from the campground. Campers can enjoy swimming at the park's lake, fishing in Big Hunting Creek (one of Maryland's premier trout streams), boating, and exploring miles of hiking trails through the Catoctin Mountains. The park also features historic sites including ruins of a 19th-century iron furnace. Wildlife viewing and seasonal hunting opportunities add to the outdoor recreation options.
Directions
The William Houck Area is located three miles west of Thurmont on Route 77, featuring the lake, falls, and camping facilities. The Manor Area is three miles south of Thurmont off Route 15, offering camping and the historic Catoctin Iron Furnace.
