The Crow Wing State Park Group Campground offers a rustic camping experience in a historically significant location next to the Mississippi River. Perfect for family reunions and group outings, the site can accommodate up to 75 people with ample space for more than a dozen tents on the grassy lawn or six to eight campers or RVs in the designated parking area. The group camp provides a spacious setting for outdoor activities like soccer, bocce ball, or badminton. Located within the 3,119-acre Crow Wing State Park, campers have access to 18 miles of hiking trails that wind through prairie, pine, and hardwood forests representing three of Minnesota's major landscapes. The park is rich in cultural history, featuring the Old Crow Wing townsite, a bustling frontier settlement of over 500 residents in the mid-1860s that served as a hub for the Red River Oxcart Trail trade between Winnipeg and Saint Paul. Interpretive trails lead to historic sites including the Beaulieu House (built 1849), the only remaining building from the original townsite, and the scenic Chippewa Lookout offering views over a mile upriver on the Mississippi. The park also provides access to the Paul Bunyan State Trail, with 6.5 miles of paved bike trail connecting to the 115-mile system. Novice paddlers can enjoy calm waters where the Crow Wing River meets the Mississippi River. The main campground features a seasonal shower building, and the park office offers canoe rentals and trail maps.
