Closed — Closed for the season. Fee campgrounds on the Malheur National Forest operate from May 1 through October 31. Camping is limited to 14 consecutive days.

Alcohol Prohibitions

This Order describes acts that are prohibited upon lands, roads and trails within the National Forest System administered by the Forest Service Pacific Northwest Region in regards to alcoholic beverages.

Aquatic Invasive Species

This Order prohibits 1) possessing, storing, or transporting any aquatic invasive animal species AND 2) prohibits possessing, storing, or transporting any aquatic or riparian invasive plant species - on National Forest System lands in the Pacific Northwest Region as specified in the Order.

Restrictions on Use of Forage and Mulch Products

This Order prohibits unloading, storing, or using any straw, hay, grain, seed, or other forage or mulch products that are not state-certified weed free on the National Forest System lands, roads or trails in any Closure Area as specific in the Order.

Malheur Falls Post Fire Hazards Closure

Prohibitions1.   Entering into or being upon an area closed for the protection of public health and safety. 36 CFR § 261.53(e).2.   Being on a National Forest System Road. 36 CFR § 261.54(c) and (e).

14 Day Stay Limit

Prohibition of Camping on the Umatilla, Wallowa-Whitman, and Malheur National Forests for a period longer than 14 days within any 30-day period. 36 CFR § 261.58(a)

Crescent Campground is a rustic, no-fee campground located along Crescent Creek in the Malheur National Forest, approximately 17 miles from Prairie City, Oregon. The campground features older facilities and provides a peaceful setting for those seeking to explore the nearby Strawberry Mountain Wilderness or enjoy the abundant wildlife viewing opportunities in the area. Wildlife viewing is excellent at Crescent Campground, with frequent sightings of small creatures such as chipmunks and squirrels, as well as larger animals like deer that come to the creek to drink. Many varieties of birds are seen in the area, and beautiful wildflowers bloom during late spring and early summer. The creek offers opportunities for fishing and picnicking. The campground serves as an ideal base camp for hiking, hunting, and exploring the surrounding national forest. Camping is limited to 14 consecutive days, and visitors should come prepared as no water is available on-site and the facilities are basic. The remote location and rustic character make this an excellent destination for experienced campers seeking solitude in a natural setting.

Directions

From Prairie City, turn onto South Main Street and follow to the junction with Bridge Street. Turn left onto Bridge Street and follow past the cemetery; the road becomes County Road 62. Follow County Road 62 approximately 17 miles; the campground will be on the right.
