About

McNaughton Spring Campground is a small, undeveloped camping area within Malheur National Forest, situated at approximately 4,900 feet elevation near Prairie City, Oregon. This primitive campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no fees and no reservations. The site offers a remote, quiet camping experience typical of the rustic USFS campgrounds scattered throughout the Malheur. The campground sits in a mixed conifer forest setting characteristic of the Blue Mountains region. Nearby attractions include access to the Strawberry Mountain Wilderness and various hiking trails in the area. The forest provides habitat for mule deer, elk, and various bird species, making it popular with hunters and wildlife enthusiasts. As a primitive site, facilities are minimal. Campers should come prepared for backcountry conditions, bringing their own water supply and packing out all trash. The 14-day stay limit applies to all camping on the Malheur National Forest.
