About
McNaughton Spring Campground is a primitive Forest Service campground situated in the Malheur National Forest in Grant County, Oregon. As one of the many free campgrounds scattered throughout the Malheur National Forest, it offers visitors a no-frills camping experience in the forested highlands of eastern Oregon's Blue Mountains. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservation system, typical of smaller USFS sites in the region. Like most campgrounds in the Malheur National Forest, overnight use is only permitted in sites designated by a campsite post. The area is characterized by ponderosa pine and mixed conifer forests, with access via forest service roads that are not maintained in winter. Visitors should come prepared for primitive conditions and be self-sufficient, as services and amenities are minimal. The campground's remote location provides opportunities for solitude and serves as a base for exploring the surrounding national forest lands, including hiking, wildlife viewing, and fishing in nearby streams during the summer season.
