About

Creek Campground is the main camping area within Hearst San Simeon State Park, offering 134 developed campsites suitable for both tent camping and RVs up to 35 feet in length. The campground is divided into two sections: sites 1-35 feature more open terrain with ocean and valley views, while sites 36-119 offer more privacy among trees and shrubs with reduced wind exposure. Paved roads and level asphalt pads accommodate RVs, though hookups are not available. The campground sits along California's scenic Central Coast, 5 miles south of Hearst Castle and 2 miles north of Cambria. Recreational opportunities abound, including beach access for surfing and beachcombing, hiking trails through coastal habitats and Monterey Pine forests, and exceptional wildlife viewing. The nearby Piedras Blancas elephant seal rookery provides year-round viewing opportunities, with peak activity during late January, April, and October. Whale watching and bird watching are also popular activities. The park encompasses several ecological preserves including the San Simeon Natural Preserve with its wetlands and monarch butterfly wintering sites, and the Santa Rosa Creek Natural Preserve with riparian habitat for the endangered Tidewater Goby. A 3.3-mile trail system winds through portions of the preserve with interpretive panels and scenic overlooks, with wheelchair-accessible sections along seasonal wetlands.

Directions

Located 5 miles south of Hearst Castle on Highway 1, 29 miles west of Paso Robles via Highway 46, or 35 miles north of San Luis Obispo on Highway 1. The campground entrance is off Highway 1 between San Simeon and Cambria.
