About

Islay Creek Campground sits within Montaña de Oro State Park, a rugged coastal park featuring dramatic bluffs, tide pools, and miles of trails through eucalyptus groves and coastal scrub. The 47 primitive campsites accommodate both tent campers and small RVs up to 27 feet in length. Each site is equipped with a fire ring and picnic table, with water spigots and vault-style restrooms located nearby throughout the campground. The campground offers a true primitive camping experience without modern amenities like electrical hookups, dump stations, or showers. Firewood is available for purchase from the camp host, with proceeds supporting the Central Coast State Parks Association. Sites allow a maximum of 8 people and 2 vehicles (trailers and motorcycles count as vehicles). Dogs are permitted in campsites and on park roads but must be on a leash no longer than 6 feet, held by an adult, and cannot be left unattended. Overnight, dogs must remain in a tent or vehicle. Reservations are made through ReserveCalifornia up to six months in advance, with new dates opening at 8 a.m. PST daily. The park is renowned for hiking, tide pool exploration at Spooner's Cove, and wildlife viewing including harbor seals and migrating whales.
