About

Morro Bay State Park Campground sits on the northeast edge of Morro Bay, offering over 140 campsites nestled in a mixed forest originally planted by Civilian Conservation Corps crews during the 1930s. The campground accommodates both tent campers and RVs up to 35 feet, with 28 sites featuring electrical hookups. All campsites include a fire ring and picnic table, with water spigots nearby. Token-operated showers and flush toilets serve the campground, and an RV dump station is available. The location provides exceptional access to Morro Bay's natural features. A pristine saltwater marsh on the lagoon's edge supports thriving bird populations, making this an outstanding destination for bird watching and wildlife viewing. Two volcanic peaks from the Nine Sisters chain, Black Hill and Cerro Cabrillo, lie within park boundaries and offer hiking trails with panoramic views. Black Hill's trail winds through dense Monterey pine stands to a summit overlooking the entire Morro Bay area. Recreational opportunities abound with kayaking in the bay, fishing in productive waters, and exploring beach areas. The Museum of Natural History, located 500 feet from the campground entrance, features exhibits on natural history, Native American culture, geology, and oceanography. The park also includes a marina, 18-hole golf course, and café. Morro Bay's moderate coastal climate typically runs 30 degrees cooler than inland areas during summer. The charming town of Morro Bay sits 1.5 miles north, providing convenient access to supplies and dining.
