About

Hazard Canyon Horse Camp is the dedicated equestrian facility at Montaña de Oro State Park, located along the rugged San Luis Obispo County coastline. The camp requires horses to be present for any reservation. Four standard sites (Lupine, Sage, Manzanita, and Chamise) each accommodate 4-5 horses and up to 8 people. Two group sites (Oak and Madrone) can host 16-18 horses and up to 50 people, with a minimum of 7 horses required for group reservations. Each site includes a fire ring, picnic table, and access to horse stalls and watering troughs. Chemical toilets and water spigots for horses are located nearby. This is a primitive facility with no electrical hookups, dump stations, or showers. Firewood is available for purchase from the Islay Creek Campground host. The park offers over 8,000 acres of trails through diverse terrain including coastal bluffs, sandy beaches, canyons, and streams. Riders can explore the backcountry via Hazard Canyon Trail and connecting routes. Dogs must be kept off equestrian trails.
