Morro Bay State Park Group Campground is located on the Central Coast, 13 miles west of San Luis Obispo. The campground features two group sites, Chorro and Osos, situated in a mixed forest originally planted by Civilian Conservation Corps crews during the 1930s. The Chorro Group Camp can accommodate groups from 9 to 35 people with up to 15 vehicles (maximum 2 RVs). The park encompasses over 2,000 acres of pristine saltwater marsh and lagoon habitats on the northeastern edge of Morro Bay, supporting thriving bird populations and offering excellent wildlife viewing opportunities. Two volcanic peaks from the Nine Sisters chain—Black Hill and Cerro Cabrillo—lie within park boundaries, with Black Hill featuring a trail that winds through dense Monterey Pine stands to a panoramic summit view. The bay's prominent landmark, Morro Rock, dominates the coastal landscape. Group campsites feature fire rings and picnic tables, with drinking water spigots nearby. Restroom facilities include flush toilets and token-operated showers. The park offers fishing, kayaking, hiking, and bird watching. The Museum of Natural History within the park features exhibits on natural history, Native American life, geology, and oceanography. A marina, café, and 18-hole golf course are also available. The coastal town of Morro Bay is 1.5 miles north with full services.

Directions

From San Luis Obispo, take Highway 1 north to South Bay Blvd. offramp, turn left for about 1 mile, then turn right at state park entrance sign. From Morro Bay, take Main St. south (becomes State Park Rd.) and continue to campground entrance. From northbound Highway 101, take Los Osos Valley Road offramp, turn left toward Los Osos for about 10 miles to South Bay Blvd., turn right for 3 miles to park entrance.
