About

Council Grounds Campground is located within Council Grounds State Park along the scenic Wisconsin River near Merrill in Lincoln County. The heavily wooded family campground features 52 campsites, with 19 sites offering electrical hookups for RVs. The park also has an outdoor group campground with 3 sites that can accommodate wheeled campers and larger groups. All family campsites include a picnic table and fire ring. Modern amenities include flush toilets and showers available seasonally from mid-May to mid-October, along with a dump station and recycling containers. The campground is situated below the Alexander Dam on the Wisconsin River, providing water access for fishing, boating, and kayaking. Above the dam, Lake Alexander offers a beach area and additional water recreation opportunities. Reservations are required for all sites and can be made up to 11 months in advance through the Wisconsin DNR system. The campground operates seasonally and provides a wooded setting with easy access to trails, the river, and an accessible fishing pier.
