About

Cottonwood Cove Campground sits within Guernsey State Park, which surrounds Guernsey Reservoir on the North Platte River in Platte County, Wyoming. The park features some of the finest examples of Civilian Conservation Corps work in the Rocky Mountain region, including the hand-hewn timber Guernsey Museum perched on a cliff overlooking the water, and The Castle with its giant fireplace and observation area. The campground provides basic amenities including picnic tables and fire grills at each campsite, with comfort stations available. While Cottonwood Cove itself does not have restrooms at the immediate campground area, facilities are within walking distance. The reservoir offers excellent opportunities for boating, fishing, and swimming, with nearby beach areas popular for water activities. The park features approximately 14 miles of restored CCC trails that provide scenic views of the reservoir and surrounding landscape. The location provides access to significant Oregon Trail historical sites, including the famous wagon ruts located just half a mile south of the town of Guernsey and Register Cliff, where pioneers carved their names into the rock face. The park's riparian areas, open grasslands, canyons and timbered hillsides provide excellent wildlife viewing opportunities.

Directions

From Jeffrey City, Wyoming, travel east on US Highway 287 for approximately 6.3 miles to Green Mountain Road. Turn right and continue south for about 10.5 miles to reach Cottonwood Campground.
