Closed for the season. Reopens June 1. In 2025, a culvert failure damaged the access road; as of June 2025, the campground was open only to non-trailer vehicles and tent campers while repairs were underway. Check with the Lander Field Office for 2026 trailer access status.

The following message is transmitted on behalf of the Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality, Air Quality Division, and the Wyoming Department of Health. * WHAT...Air Quality Alert for Wildfire Smoke. * WHERE...Northern Wyoming and portions of central Wyoming. * WHEN...Until 12 PM Tuesday. * IMPACTS...Smoke from western United States wildfires and the Weiser Knoll fire continues to be observed across much of western and central Wyoming. The smoke is limiting visibilities at times. HEALTH INFORMATION...The Wyoming Department of Health recommends that the elderly, young children, and individuals with respiratory problems avoid excessive physical exertion and minimize outdoor activities during this time. Wildfire smoke is made up of a variety of pollutants, including particulate matter and ozone, which can cause respiratory health effects. Although these people are most susceptible to health impacts, the Department of Health also advises that everyone should avoid prolonged exposure to poor air quality conditions. CURRENT CONDITIONS...The Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality, Air Quality Division offers near real-time air quality data for Wyoming's monitoring stations and health effects information to help the public interpret current conditions. About

Cottonwood Campground is a developed Bureau of Land Management site located on Green Mountain in Fremont County, Wyoming. Situated in a semi-alpine setting approximately 17 miles from Jeffrey City, it offers the only developed recreation facilities within a several-hundred-square-mile area. The campground features 18 sites equipped with fire rings, picnic tables, potable water, accessible vault toilets, and garbage collection. Large recreational vehicles can be accommodated. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservations accepted. Fees are $20 per night, or $10 per night with a Senior Annual Pass, Senior Lifetime Pass, or Access Pass. The maximum stay is 14 days. The regular season runs from June 1 through October 31. The Green Mountain Loop Road above the campground opens June 15 through December 1. Green Mountain offers spectacular views of the surrounding Wyoming landscapes and provides excellent deer and elk hunting opportunities. The area sees peak visitation during fall hunting season from mid-September through mid-October.

Directions

From Jeffrey City, Wyoming, go east 6.3 miles to Green Mountain Road. Turn right and follow it about 10.5 miles south to Cottonwood Campground.
