Cottonwood Campground

Closed — Closed for the season. Normal operating season is June 1 through October 31. A culvert failure in 2025 required repairs and limited trailer access during parts of the summer season.

About

Cottonwood Campground is a developed camping site managed by the Bureau of Land Management in a semi-alpine setting in the Green Mountain Recreation Area. Located about 10.5 miles south of Jeffrey City, this remote campground offers a secluded escape into alpine terrain in south-central Wyoming. The campground features 18 developed campsites equipped with fire rings, picnic tables, potable water, accessible vault toilets, and garbage collection. The site can accommodate large recreational vehicles under normal conditions. The campground sits in the only developed recreation area in an alpine setting within a several hundred square-mile area. The Green Mountain Loop Road above the campground typically operates from June 15 through December 1. The campground experienced a culvert failure in spring 2025, which required repairs and temporarily limited access to non-trailer vehicles and tent campers during the early summer season.
