About
Convict Lake Campground is situated at 7,600 feet elevation along Convict Creek in the Inyo National Forest, approximately 100 yards from Convict Lake. The campground offers 85 sites spread across terrain of shrubs and low vegetation, with groves of aspen and cottonwood trees along the creek. Many sites are flat and suitable for RVs, though no hookups are available. Each site includes a bear-proof locker, picnic table, and fire pit. The eastern Sierra location provides exceptional trout fishing for rainbow and brown trout in both the creek and lake. Power boats are limited to electric motors only on the lake. The 3.5-mile Lake Trail can be accessed directly from the campground, and numerous trails in the nearby John Muir Wilderness offer extensive hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding opportunities. The area is home to abundant wildlife including black bears, mountain lions, mule deer, and numerous bird species. The campground operates with a reservation system for half the sites through Recreation.gov, while the remaining sites are available first-come, first-served. A dump station is located a quarter-mile from the campground along Convict Lake Road, and showers are available for a fee at the nearby Convict Lake Resort.
