About
Tenmile Campground sits at 5,800 feet elevation along Tenmile Creek, five miles from Hume Lake on Tenmile Road within the Giant Sequoia National Monument. The primitive campground offers 13 single and double campsites nestled among towering Sequoia and Ponderosa pines. Each site includes a picnic table, campfire ring, and bear locker. The campground provides vault toilets but no potable water, so campers must bring their own supply. The location offers exceptional access to giant sequoia groves, particularly Bearskin Grove, which provides the rare opportunity to photograph an entire mature sequoia in one frame. Trails throughout the monument accommodate hikers, mountain bikers, and equestrians outside wilderness areas. Tenmile Creek attracts anglers, while nearby Hume Lake offers year-round recreation including fishing, non-motorized boating, hiking, and winter sports like snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and snowmobiling. The campground is managed by ExplorUS through a Forest Service concession agreement. Sites can be reserved through Recreation.gov. Visitors should be prepared for primitive conditions and follow special food storage regulations as this is active black bear country. The area provides convenient day trip access to Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks.
Directions
From Fresno, take Highway 180 east to the park entrance, turn right on Generals Highway, then turn left on Tenmile Road. The campground is approximately five miles on the left.
