About

Hume Lake Campground occupies the northern end of Hume Lake, a man-made reservoir originally built in 1908 to support logging operations and the longest lumber flume ever constructed to transport logs to the Central Valley. Today the lake and surrounding forest offer a quieter alternative to the nearby Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks while still providing easy access to giant sequoia groves like Bearskin Grove. The campground's 74 sites are spread beneath mature Incense Cedars and Ponderosa Pines, with some sites offering lake views. Single and double-family configurations are available. Each site includes a picnic table and fire ring. Flush toilets and potable water are provided; there are no showers, hookups, or dump station on-site. The nearest dump station is at Princess Campground, about 5 miles away. Hume Lake Village, a short walk from camp, offers a general store with groceries, a cafe, gas station, boat rentals, and fishing supplies. The lake is restricted to non-motorized boats. This is black bear country, so proper food storage is required. Camping is limited to 14 consecutive nights within any 30-day period.

Directions

From Fresno, take Highway 180 east to the Park Wye. Go left and continue on Highway 180 past Grant Grove for 12.25 miles. Turn right on Hume Road and continue 3 miles to a Y intersection. Take the left fork 0.5 mile to the campground entrance.
