Berlin-ichthyosaur State Park Group Campground

Open — Open year-round for camping. Water is typically available mid-April through October; campers should bring water during other months. Limited to 14 consecutive nights per 30-day period.

About

Berlin-Ichthyosaur State Park Group Campground offers a unique camping experience in far northwestern Nye County at 7,000 feet elevation on the western slope of the Shoshone Mountains. The campground features 14 well-spaced sites, some suitable for RVs up to 25 feet, each equipped with a covered picnic table, fire ring, and BBQ grill. An RV dump station is available on-site. The park protects two distinct attractions: the ghost town of Berlin, built in the 1890s and preserved in arrested decay with original buildings and mining structures, and the Fossil House containing North America's most abundant concentration of the largest-known Ichthyosaur fossils. These ancient marine reptiles swam in a warm ocean covering central Nevada 225 million years ago. A nature trail connects the campground to the Fossil House, and guided fossil tours are offered seasonally. The area is surrounded by big sagebrush, pinyon pine, and Utah juniper, with wildlife including mule deer, western bluebirds, pinyon jays, and chukar partridge. Visitors should note that water is typically available only from mid-April through the end of October, and services are limited with the nearest gas and food in Gabbs. The remote location and elevation make this an ideal destination for those seeking solitude and historical exploration.

Directions
