Coldwater Equestrian Campground sits within the Coldwater Recreation Area in Blackwater River State Forest, about one hour northeast of Pensacola. As part of Florida's largest state forest with over 210,000 acres, it provides exceptional equestrian facilities including 60 barn stalls, 3 corrals, 58 covered paddocks, a round pen, and access to 55 miles of horse trails winding through some of Florida's most scenic longleaf pine woodlands. The campground offers 56 campsites with electric and water hookups suitable for RVs or tents, with driveway lengths ranging from 24 to 55 feet. Amenities include modern restrooms with showers, a dump station, fire rings at each site, and a dining pavilion available by reservation. The area is bordered by Coldwater Creek, which features a sandbar for swimming and canoeing access. Blackwater River State Forest is part of the largest contiguous longleaf pine-wiregrass ecosystem in the world, shared with Conecuh National Forest to the north and Eglin Air Force Base to the south. The forest is included in the Florida National Scenic Trail and Great Florida Birding and Wildlife Trail systems. The Coldwater Equestrian area operates as a non-hunting zone, though fluorescent orange is recommended during main hunting season when riding trails beyond the immediate facility. Field trial participants have historically prized this location, and the facility includes 124 kennels for hunting dogs during events.

Directions

From I-10 take exit 22 for FL-281 N toward Milton. Head north on FL-281 N for 4 miles to US-90 E and turn right. Go to Highway 87 at the Burger King and turn left. Travel 0.8 miles to Milton High School and turn right on Highway 191. Continue 14 miles to the Coldwater Recreation Area sign, turn left and follow pavement 5.5 miles to the facility.
