Coldwater Equestrian Campground is a purpose-built facility for horse riders located within the 210,000-acre Blackwater River State Forest in Santa Rosa County, Florida. Opened in 1974, it has long served as a hub for bird dog and fox hound field trial participants as well as equestrians exploring the forest's extensive trail system. The campground features 54 RV and tent sites with water and 30/50 amp electric hookups, plus one tent-only site. For horses, there are 60 covered barn stalls, additional open stalls, three corrals, and a round pen. Dog owners participating in field trials have access to 124 kennels. Shared amenities include bathhouses with flush toilets and showers, a dump station, fire rings, and a dining pavilion available by reservation. Recreational opportunities extend beyond horseback riding to include canoeing on adjacent Coldwater Creek, swimming, picnicking, bird watching, and wildlife photography. The creek features swift currents and deep holes, and horses are prohibited from entering the water. Horses must remain in designated stalls, corrals, and trails and are not permitted at individual campsites.

Directions

From I-10 take exit 22 for FL-281 N toward Milton. Head north on FL-281 N for 4 miles to US-90 E and turn right. Go to Highway 87 at the Burger King and turn left. Travel 0.8 miles to Milton High School and turn right on Highway 191. Continue 14 miles to the Coldwater Recreation Area sign, turn left and follow pavement 5.5 miles to the facility.
