Hurricane Lake North Youth Group Camp Blackwater River State Forest

Open

Open year-round. Reservations available through Florida State Forests ReserveAmerica up to 11 months in advance. Facility is restricted to organized youth groups with adult chaperones.

About

Hurricane Lake North Youth Group Camp is situated on the north shore of Hurricane Lake, a 318-acre lake within Florida's largest state forest. The camp provides a dedicated primitive camping experience for organized youth groups accompanied by adult chaperones. The site includes potable water but no electric hookups, fitting its primitive character. Campers share facilities with the adjacent Hurricane Lake North Campground, which provides restrooms, hot showers, and a dump station. A boat ramp on the north side of the lake offers direct water access for fishing and paddling. Hurricane Lake supports a warm-water fishery managed by FWC. The surrounding longleaf pine and wiregrass ecosystem supports diverse wildlife. During hunting season from Thanksgiving through mid-February, campers hiking away from the camping area should wear fluorescent orange. Alligators inhabit the lake; swimming is prohibited.
