About

Hurricane Lake South Campground sits on the southern shore of Hurricane Lake, a 318-acre fishing lake in the heart of Blackwater River State Forest. This primitive campground provides 18 tent-only sites in a natural longleaf pine and wiregrass ecosystem characteristic of Florida's panhandle. Each site accommodates up to 8 people with equipment lengths varying from 25 to 50 feet depending on the specific site. The campground features fire rings and grills at each site, with potable water faucets conveniently located throughout. A bathhouse provides restroom facilities, and a dump station serves the recreation area. A boat ramp offers direct access to Hurricane Lake for fishing and non-motorized boating, with a fish cleaning station available for anglers. Blackwater River State Forest is Florida's largest state forest, encompassing over 210,000 acres of woodlands, lakes, and streams. Visitors should note that swimming is prohibited in Hurricane Lake due to resident alligators. During hunting season, wearing fluorescent orange is recommended even in non-hunting zones. The campground operates year-round and hosts a campground host on-site.
