About

Hurricane Lake South Campground is located on the south shore of 318-acre Hurricane Lake in the Blackwater River State Forest, approximately one hour northeast of Pensacola, Florida. The campground offers 18 primitive tent-only sites with driveway lengths ranging from 25 to 50 feet, accommodating up to 8 people per site. Each site includes a fire ring and grill. Potable water faucets, restrooms, and a dump station are available in the campground area. The campground provides direct access to Hurricane Lake via a boat ramp, making it ideal for fishing and boating enthusiasts. The lake is stocked and managed by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. Swimming is prohibited due to the presence of alligators. Additional recreational opportunities include picnicking, bird watching, wildlife viewing, nature study, and photography. The area is designated as a non-hunting zone. Blackwater River State Forest is Florida's largest state forest, encompassing over 210,000 acres of woodlands, lakes, and streams. The forest preserves part of the world's largest contiguous longleaf pine-wiregrass ecosystem and is part of the Florida National Scenic Trail and Great Florida Birding and Wildlife Trail. Reservations can be made up to 11 months in advance through the Florida State Forests reservation system.
