About

Clyde Glacier Group Camp sits along Big Pine Creek in the spectacular Big Pine Canyon, named for the impressive glaciers visible at the end of the valley. At 7,600 feet elevation, this group site accommodates up to 25 guests and provides parking for two 35-foot and six 20-foot vehicles on paved spaces. The campground is positioned close to Upper Sage Flat family campground, making it unsuitable for loud events. Big Pine Canyon is renowned for having both the largest and southernmost glaciers in the Sierra Nevada mountains. The North Fork Trail climbs past waterfalls through Jeffrey pine, manzanita and sage before reaching Big Pine Lakes at around 10,000 feet elevation, with dramatic views of Palisade Glacier. The South Fork Trail leads to small lakes fed by glacial waters from Norman Clyde and Middle Palisade Glaciers. The steep, glacier-carved canyon walls provide excellent climbing opportunities, while Big Pine Creek and nearby lakes offer quality fishing. This is an active bear area, and proper food storage in the provided bear boxes is mandatory. Equestrian facilities are available for campers with horses. A commercial pack station, general store, pay showers and pond fishing can be found at a nearby resort.

Directions

From Highway 395 in Big Pine, turn west on Crocker Street at the flashing yellow traffic light and proceed 8-9 miles west. The campground will be on your left after entering the forested area, just above Upper Sage Flat Campground.
