About
Clyde Glacier Group Camp is a reservable group site in the Big Pine Canyon drainage of Inyo National Forest, situated at 7,600 feet elevation in the eastern Sierra Nevada. The campground can accommodate up to 25 guests and provides paved parking including two 35-foot spaces and six 20-foot spaces. Equestrian facilities are available for campers bringing horses. The site features vault toilets and potable water from a hand pump. Bear boxes are provided and their use is mandatory, as the area is active bear habitat. Fire rings and grills are available at the site. Due to proximity to Upper Sage Flat family campground, loud events are not appropriate and quiet hours are enforced from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. The Big Pine Canyon area offers excellent hiking access. The North Fork Trail climbs past waterfalls to reach Big Pine Lakes with views of Palisade Glacier, while the South Fork Trail leads to small lakes fed by glacial waters from Norman Clyde and Middle Palisade Glaciers.
Directions
From Highway 395 in Big Pine, CA, turn west at the flashing yellow traffic light onto Crocker Street/Big Pine Road. Continue west for approximately 8-9 miles. The group campground is on the left, just above Upper Sage Flat Campground.
