About

Big Pine Canyon Group Campground consists of two group sites along Big Pine Creek in Inyo National Forest. Clyde Glacier Group Site accommodates up to 25 guests with parking for two 35-foot and six 20-foot vehicles. Palisade Glacier Group Site is tent-only and also fits 25 guests. Both sites have vault toilets, potable water from a hand pump, and bear boxes which are mandatory in this active bear area. The campground sits at 7,600 feet elevation and serves as a staging area for exploring the glaciers of the Palisade Crest. The North Fork Trail climbs past waterfalls through Jeffrey pine, manzanita, and sage to reach Big Pine Lakes with views of Palisade Glacier, the largest glacier in the Sierra Nevada. The South Fork Trail leads to lakes fed by Norman Clyde and Middle Palisade glaciers, the southernmost glaciers in the range. Fishing in the creek and nearby lakes is popular, and the steep canyon walls provide climbing opportunities. Equestrian facilities are available for campers with horses. A nearby resort offers pay showers and a general store.
