About

City of Rocks Campground is spread across a 6-mile area within the City of Rocks National Reserve, offering 64 standard campsites and 3 group sites surrounded by impressive granite formations reaching 60 stories tall. Sites are shaded by aspen, juniper, mountain mahogany, and pine, providing a cool retreat beneath the reserve's iconic rock spires. Each standard campsite includes a fire ring with ground grill and picnic table, accommodating up to 8 people, 2 tents, and 2 vehicles per site. The campground is renowned for access to world-class granite climbing with approximately 700 developed routes on the Almo Pluton, considered some of the finest granite-face climbing anywhere. Hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, and viewing historic California Trail wagon ruts and pioneer inscriptions are popular activities. Winter visitors enjoy snowshoeing and cross-country skiing opportunities. The campground is fairly primitive with gravel roads that can be steep in places. Select sites (5, 7, 12, 13, 15, 20, 33, 34, 35, 46, 47, 57, 63, 64) can accommodate RVs and trailers up to 28 feet. Sites 5, 12, 20, 27, 39, and 63 are the most level and accessible. Larger RVs should consider nearby Smoky Mountain Campground with full hookups. Vault toilets are located throughout the reserve year-round. Water is available seasonally from May through September at select locations and at the visitor center during winter months.
