About
Cherry Creek Campground is a small, scenic campground located along one of the most scenic stretches of the Trail of the Mountain Spirits Scenic Byway in Gila National Forest. At 6,800 feet elevation, the campground sits in a cool mixed conifer forest approximately 14 miles north of Silver City on NM Highway 15. The campground features 12 sites nestled at the bottom of a canyon with a small seasonal stream running through it. The area offers spectacular seasonal displays throughout the year. Spring brings abundant wildflowers and hummingbirds. In autumn, the hillsides transform into a vibrant mosaic of golden aspens, rusty oaks, and bright red sumac. During winter months with snow, a small trickle of water flows through the creek. The campground's intimate size and forest setting make it ideal for those seeking a quiet, natural experience. Due to the narrow road and small sites, the campground is not recommended for RVs over 17 feet. The campground is best suited for cars, vans, pickup trucks, or small trailers. Firewood is not available on-site, so visitors should bring their own wood, charcoal, or propane for cooking. Poison ivy is present near the campground, and the creek can experience high water during heavy rain periods.
Directions
From Silver City, follow New Mexico Highway 15 approximately 14 miles north. The campground is located on the east side of Highway 15.
