About

Gomez Peak Group Picnic Site is a reservable day-use area within the Little Walnut-Gomez Peak Day Use Area of Gila National Forest, located just north of Silver City, New Mexico. The site centers around a large covered pavilion equipped with 12 picnic tables that can seat approximately 96 people, along with pedestal BBQ grills for cooking. Amenities include vault toilets, trash service, and recreational facilities including volleyball and horseshoe pits. Firewood is not provided, so groups should bring charcoal or wood for cooking. The surrounding Ponderosa and Pinyon-Juniper landscape offers views of Gomez Peak and Eighty Mountain, with deer, squirrels, and various bird species frequently spotted at the site. The location serves as a trailhead for the popular Gomez Peak/Little Walnut Trail System, featuring numerous loop trails that attract mountain bikers and hikers.
