About

Gomez Peak Group Picnic Site is a reservation-only day use area in the Gila National Forest, designed to accommodate large groups of up to 200 people. The facility features a large covered pavilion with seating for up to 96 people across 12 picnic tables, along with pedestal BBQ grills, vault toilets, trash cans, and recreational amenities including volleyball and horseshoe pits. Parking is available for up to 50 vehicles. The site provides direct access to the popular Gomez Peak/Little Walnut Trail System, making it an ideal base for group hiking and mountain biking excursions. The trail network offers numerous loops through scenic Ponderosa and Pinyon-Juniper forest with views of Gomez Peak and Eighty Mountain. Wildlife including deer, squirrels, and various bird species are commonly observed in the area. Visitors should note that no firewood is available on-site, so groups should plan to bring charcoal or wood for cooking. Pets are permitted on leash only, and horses are not allowed in the picnic grounds. The site operates year-round from dawn to dusk and requires advance reservations through Recreation.gov at $40 per day.
