Citrus Tract Primitive Camp Zone Loop B offers backcountry camping within one of Florida's largest state forests. Located approximately 5 miles southwest of Inverness in Citrus County, this hike-in primitive zone sits along the Citrus Hiking Trail system. The camp zone is marked by yellow bands painted on trees and requires a 5-10 mile hike from parking areas at trailheads like Holder Mine or Mutual Mine campgrounds. This is true primitive camping with no water, restrooms, or developed amenities. Some areas within the zone may have a fire ring or picnic table, but most sites are undeveloped clearings. Campers must pack in all water and supplies and pack out all trash. The surrounding longleaf pine sandhills provide excellent habitat for Red-cockaded Woodpeckers, Bachman's Sparrows, and other notable species. Before heading out, contact WSF Dispatch at 352-797-4100 to verify if prescribed burning is scheduled. During hunting seasons, wear at least 500 square inches of blaze orange. Groups of 6 or more require a State Forest Use Permit from the Visitor Center.

Directions

For Holder Mine Trailhead: From I-75, take Exit 329 (SR 44) west toward Inverness. Continue west on SR 44 to US 41, then to C-581 (Pleasant Grove Road) at Applebees. Go south on C-581 approximately 3 miles to FR/Trail 10. Turn right (west) and continue approximately 2 miles. Park at trailhead sign on south side of FR/Trail 10 outside Holder Mine Campground. For Mutual Mine Trailhead: Same initial directions, but continue south on C-581 approximately 6 miles to FR/Trail 16. Turn right (west) and park at trailhead sign outside Mutual Mine Campground gate. Hike 5-10 miles to reach camp zone.
