About
Citrus Tract Primitive Camp Zone Loop B is a backcountry camping destination in the 50,000-acre Citrus Tract of Withlacoochee State Forest, located approximately 5 miles southwest of Inverness, Florida. This hike-in only campground is situated 5-10 miles from the parking area, depending on which trailhead you use (Holder Mine or Mutual Mine). The camp zone is marked by yellow colored bands on trees and operates on a first-come, first-served basis year-round. As a true primitive camping experience, this site provides no water and no restrooms. Some areas within the zone may have a fire ring or picnic table, but campers should be prepared to be completely self-sufficient. The surrounding landscape features open pine sand hills, dense woodlands, and excellent wildlife habitat supporting bald eagles, fox squirrels, gopher tortoises, white-tail deer, and wild turkeys. The area offers outstanding opportunities for hiking, bird watching, wildlife viewing, star gazing, wildflower viewing, and nature study. Campers should contact Withlacoochee State Forest Dispatch at (352) 797-4100 before each day of their outing to verify if prescribed burning will be taking place. This is a Wildlife Management Area, and visitors are recommended to wear 500 square inches of blaze orange while hiking during hunting seasons. The forest service will close all campgrounds if Citrus County is placed under a Tropical Storm or Hurricane Warning by the National Weather Service.
