Cheoah Point Cabin 1 sits within the Cheoah Point Recreation Area on a scenic peninsula in Santeetlah Lake, surrounded by mixed hardwood forest in the Nantahala National Forest. This primitive cabin has two rooms: a front room with a full bed frame and a back room with bunk bed frames. The cabin has lights and ceiling fans but no electrical outlets inside; an exterior patio provides a charcoal grill, picnic table, lantern post, and an electric outlet unit. Guests should bring their own mattress pads, bedding, food preparation supplies, and cooler. Flush toilets and shower facilities are located approximately 150 feet from the cabin, and water spigots are available throughout the campground. The recreation area includes a swim beach and boat ramp on Santeetlah Lake, which offers 76 miles of shoreline ideal for fishing, boating, and water sports. The Wauchecha Bald Trail across from the recreation area eventually connects to the Appalachian Trail. Great Smoky Mountains National Park is a short distance away for day trips. Pets are not allowed in the cabin except for service animals. Guests must remove trash and sweep the cabin before departure.

Directions

From Robbinsville, North Carolina, continue on Highway 129 north for approximately 6 miles. Turn left on SR 1145 (Thunderbird Mountain Road). Continue approximately 1.3 miles to the Cheoah Point Campground. The cabin is located within the campground.
