About
McBride Springs Campground occupies a scenic position on the lower slopes of Mount Shasta at 5,000 feet elevation within Shasta-Trinity National Forest. The 12-site campground accommodates tents and small RVs, with each site featuring a picnic table and fire ring. A miniature spring-fed seasonal creek meanders through the grounds, adding to the mountain atmosphere. Facilities include vault toilets and a hand-operated well water pump. Note that the water is not potable and must be filtered or boiled before drinking. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no advance reservations available. Fees are $10 per night, and stays are limited to 7 consecutive days. Pets are welcome but must be kept on a leash no longer than six feet. Horses and other pack animals are prohibited. The campground's location just 4 miles from the town of Mount Shasta makes it convenient for resupplying while still offering a quiet forest setting with mountain access. Everitt Memorial Highway continues up the mountain from here toward the Bunny Flat trailhead and other alpine destinations.
Directions
From the Mt. Shasta Ranger Station, head east on Alma Street toward the mountain. Cross the railroad tracks and turn right at the signal onto Mt. Shasta Blvd. Continue two blocks to Lake Street and turn left. Stay on Lake Street as it climbs a hill and veers left onto Everitt Memorial Highway. Continue through the four-way stop, past the school, and over the railroad tracks. After leaving town and climbing the mountain for 4 miles, the campground sign will be on your right.
