About
Camp Roosevelt Campground holds a special place in American history as the location of the first Civilian Conservation Corps camp in the nation. Situated in George Washington National Forest in Shenandoah County, this campground features 10 first-come, first-served campsites nestled under proud and lofty oak trees. Visitors can follow an interpretive path through the original CCC camp site and view the foundations where the actual buildings once stood, offering a glimpse into the 1930s conservation movement. The campground provides a peaceful setting for picnicking, camping, and exploring the surrounding forest. Each campsite includes a picnic table and fire pit. The area offers access to hiking and mountain biking trails, as well as opportunities for wildlife viewing. While the campground provides vault toilets, campers should bring their own water as no potable water is available on-site. The facility operates from late May through mid-October with quiet hours from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.
