Shenandoah River State Park Campground
Open — Open year-round for camping. Park grounds open daily 8 a.m. to dusk. Check-in is 4 p.m., checkout is 1 p.m. for campsites.
Special Weather Statement issued April 12 at 1:43PM EDT by NWS Baltimore MD/Washington DC
The combination of 10 hour fuel moistures around 8 to 10 percent relative humidities around 30 to 39 percent, and wind gusts around 20 to 25 mph will lead to an increased risk for the rapid spread of wildfires on Monday. Residents and visitors are urged to properly dispose of cigarette butts, matches, and any other flammable items in appropriate containers. Additionally, exercise caution if operating any equipment that could create sparks and keep vehicles off of dry grass. Most dry grasses, dead leaves, and other tree litter could easily ignite and spread fire quickly. Lastly, remember to obey local burn bans. For more information about wildfire danger, burn restrictions, and wildfire prevention and education, please visit your state forestry or environmental protection website. About
Shenandoah River State Park spans 1,619 acres along 5.2 miles of the South Fork Shenandoah River, offering scenic views of Massanutten Mountain to the west and Shenandoah National Park to the east. The park opened in June 1999 and has become a popular destination for families, anglers, and paddlers seeking riverside recreation. The park features two distinct campgrounds serving different camping styles. The RV Campground has 31 sites with water and electric hookups (20, 30, and 50-amp service), with five pull-through sites and 26 back-in sites that can accommodate RVs up to 60 feet. River Right Campground offers 12 walk-in tent sites, some located less than 50 yards from parking, with wagon service to help transport gear. A walk-in group site accommodating up to 30 people is also available. All sites include picnic tables, fire rings, and grills, with centrally located bathhouses providing hot showers. Beyond camping, the park offers 25 miles of multi-use trails open to hikers, bikers, and horseback riders, plus three car-top boat launches for river access. The riverside day-use area features picnic shelters, and the visitor center includes exhibits on local wildlife and the region's natural history. Fishing is popular along the river frontage, and wadeable access points provide opportunities for anglers. The park is just 8 miles from Front Royal and 15 miles from Luray, making it an accessible getaway in the Shenandoah Valley.
