...MAJOR WINTER STORM EXPECTED THIS WEEKEND... .A large area of precipitation will overrun Arctic air in place over the Mid-Atlantic. This will likely lead to widespread significant snow beginning late Saturday, with the potential for ice Sunday especially south of Highway 50 and near and east of Interstate 95. In addition to the high threat for significant snow and ice, very cold temperatures are expected Friday night through the middle of next week with sub-zero wind chills likely at times. * WHAT...Heavy snow mixed with sleet and freezing rain possible. There is a high likelihood of at least 5 inches of snow, with over 10 inches possible. Ice accumulation is also possible, especially south of Interstate 70. * WHERE...Portions of central, north central, and northern Maryland, central, northern, northwest, and western Virginia, and eastern and panhandle West Virginia. * WHEN...From Saturday afternoon through late Sunday night. * IMPACTS...Travel could be very difficult to impossible. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Snow will likely overspread the area by Saturday evening, becoming heavy at times Saturday night with rates of one to two inches per hour possible at times. A mix with sleet or freezing rain is possible Sunday, especially south of Interstate 70. Significant icing is possible especially across central Virginia. Visibility of one-quarter mile or less is possible at times. A prolonged period wind chills in the teens and single digits is likely beginning this evening and lasting through the middle of next week, with sub-zero wind chills possible at times.

In West Virginia, Eastern Grant, Eastern Pendleton, Hardy, and Western Pendleton Counties. * WHEN...From 8 PM Friday to 10 AM EST Saturday. * IMPACTS...The dangerously cold wind chills as low as 15 below zero could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes.

Little Fort Campground is a minimally developed recreation area located in the George Washington National Forest near a historic meadow that once served as a rest stop for a stagecoach line. The campground features 9 primitive sites available on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservations required. The primary draw is direct access to the Peters Mill Run/Taskers Gap OHV trail system, the largest off-highway vehicle trail network in Virginia. Each site includes a picnic table, fire ring, and tent pad. The campground offers vault toilets but no potable water, trash service, or modern amenities. Visitors must bring their own water and pack out all trash. The location is remote with limited or no cellular service. An OHV Special Recreation Permit is required for trail use. Alcoholic beverages are prohibited on-site, and pets must be leashed at all times with a maximum leash length of 6 feet.
Directions
From I-81: Take exit 279 and turn east on State Route 675. In the center of Edinburg at the T-intersection, turn left onto U.S. Highway 11. At the north end of Edinburg, turn right onto State Route 675. Follow State Route 675 for 5.9 miles over Massanutten Mountain to a STOP sign at Kings Crossing T-intersection. Turn left (north) and drive 7.3 miles to Detrick. Turn left onto State Route 758 in Detrick and drive 2.7 miles to camp entrance on left.
