About

Butler Bar Campground is a small, primitive campground nestled along the Wild and Scenic Elk River in Oregon's Coast Range. The seven sites provide a quiet, no-frills camping experience with vault toilets, picnic tables, and fire pits at each site. There is no potable water, and campers must pack out all trash. The campground serves as a gateway to both the Copper-Salmon Wilderness and Grassy Knob Wilderness, offering access to hiking, fishing, and river recreation. The Elk River itself is a designated Wild and Scenic River known for its clear waters and native fish populations. The area also falls along the Wild Coast Scenic Bikeway for those touring the southern Oregon coast by bicycle. Reached via 22 miles of Forest Road 5325 from Highway 101, the campground sees moderate use and operates on a first-come, first-served basis with a 14-day stay limit.
