About
Buckhorn Campground is a popular destination at Chickasaw National Recreation Area, conveniently located along Lake of the Arbuckles in south-central Oklahoma. Set in the naturally diverse Crosstimbers region where western plains meet eastern forests, the campground offers a relaxed atmosphere ideal for families and water sports enthusiasts. The rolling hillside terrain features unique flora, fauna, and geological formations characteristic of the Arbuckle Mountains. The campground has four loops (A, B, C, and D) with over 130 sites total. Loops C and D offer a mixture of electric and non-electric campsites, with water hookups available at electric sites. Loops A and B are seasonal and non-electric, operating on a first-come, first-served basis during summer months. Modern restroom facilities feature flush toilets, sinks, and showers. While there are no sewer hookups at individual sites, a dump station is located less than a mile from the campgrounds. Each campsite typically includes a picnic table and fire pit. Recreational opportunities center around Lake of the Arbuckles, one of Oklahoma's premier water recreation destinations. Anglers can catch bass, catfish, and crappie, while boaters and jet skiers enjoy cruising the scenic lake. The nearby Buckhorn Boat Launch provides convenient water access. Beyond water activities, visitors can explore the unpaved Rock Creek Multi-Use Trail for hiking and biking, or venture to the Chickasaw Cultural Center to learn about the region's Native American heritage through interactive exhibits.
