About
Three Island Crossing State Park preserves one of the most consequential sites on the Oregon Trail. Here, emigrants faced a critical decision: ford the treacherous Snake River at Three Island or continue along the more difficult south bank. Thousands chose the crossing, making this one of the most famous and deadly passages on the trail west. Today, a free interpretive center details this history through exhibits and programs. The park offers camping in two areas: Wagon Wheel and Trailside campgrounds, totaling 82 serviced sites with water and 20-amp electric hookups. Both campgrounds have modern restroom buildings with flush toilets and indoor showers. Each site includes a picnic table and fire ring. Eight rental cabins are also available, two of which are ADA-accessible. The Cottonwood and Sage cabins close from November through mid-March. Located just two miles off Interstate 84 at the Glenns Ferry exit, the park also features a 9-hole disc golf course, group picnic shelters, and access to the Snake River for fishing. The surrounding high desert landscape along the river corridor supports diverse birdlife.
Directions
From Interstate 84, take Exit 121 at Glenns Ferry. Head south on Commercial Street, then turn right onto Madison Avenue. Continue to Three Island Park Drive and follow signs to the park entrance. The park is approximately 2 miles from the interstate.
