Bonanza Group Campground

About

Bonanza CCC Group Campground is located nine miles up the scenic and historic Yankee Fork drainage, approximately 23 miles from Stanley, Idaho, at an elevation of 6,500 feet. The campground overlooks the Bonanza ghost town and sits just two miles from Custer ghost town, offering a unique historical setting for group camping. The site was originally built by the Civilian Conservation Corps and retains much of its historic character. The campground features 13 individual camping spurs with fire rings and cooking grills, picnic tables, vault toilets, and drinking water from a spring. A large central gathering area makes it ideal for family reunions, scout troops, and other organized groups. The site can accommodate trailers and RVs up to 50 feet and has parking for approximately 40 vehicles without trailers or 20 with trailers. No hookups, showers, or dump station are available. The Yankee Fork provides excellent fishing for rainbow trout, cutthroat trout, and whitefish. Numerous trails crisscross the area including West Fork of Yankee Fork, Crimson Lake Trail, and Lightning Creek Trail. The Yankee Fork Gold Dredge near Custer offers interpretive tours from Memorial Day through Labor Day.

From Stanley: Drive 11 miles east on Highway 75 to Sunbeam Dam overlook, turn left on Forest Road 013 for 7 miles, then turn left at Bonanza Guard Station and continue 0.5 miles to campground. From Challis: Drive 42 miles west on Highway 75 to Sunbeam Dam overlook, turn right on Forest Road 013 for 7 miles, then turn left at Bonanza Guard Station and continue 0.5 miles.
