About
Bonanza CCC Group Campground sits in a beautiful valley along the scenic and historic Yankee Fork drainage, approximately 23 miles from Stanley, Idaho at an elevation of 6,500 feet. This group-only facility features 13 camp spurs averaging 45 to 50 feet deep, each equipped with a vehicle/trailer pad, picnic table, and campfire ring with cooking grill. The campground accommodates up to 70 people and includes parking for approximately 40 vehicles without trailers or 20 with trailers. A central gathering area with two large fire rings, a grey water sink, and several picnic tables makes it ideal for large groups and family reunions. The campground is situated among scattered lodgepole pines with abundant summer wildflowers. The nearby Yankee Fork of the Salmon River provides good fishing for rainbow trout, cutthroat trout, and whitefish. Multiple hiking trails including West Fork of Yankee Fork, Crimson Lake Trail, and Lightning Creek Trail are easily accessible from the campground. History enthusiasts will appreciate the proximity to Bonanza ghost town (within one mile), Custer ghost town (two miles), and historic cemeteries. The towering Yankee Fork Gold Dredge near Custer offers interpretive tours from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Sunbeam Dam site, nine miles down the canyon, provides information about the only dam ever built on the Salmon River.
Directions
From Highway 75, turn onto Yankee Fork Road (Forest Road 013) at Sunbeam Dam overlook. Travel approximately seven miles north on Yankee Fork Road and turn left at the Bonanza Guard Station onto Forest Road 074. Continue for approximately half a mile to the campground.
