About

Pole Flat Campground is a small Forest Service campground in the Salmon-Challis National Forest, located about 3 miles up Yankee Fork Road from the Sunbeam Dam overlook on Highway 75. The campground is positioned on a hillside away from the main road, providing a quieter setting with views overlooking the river and the historic gold dredge ponds below. Each campsite includes a picnic table, tent pad, and fire ring with cooking grill. The campground has vault toilets but water availability is uncertain; recent Forest Service information indicates potable water may not be available, so campers should bring their own supply. Sites can accommodate trailers and motorhomes up to 32 feet in length. The area offers good fishing opportunities in nearby lakes, ponds, and the river. The Yankee Fork area has rich mining history, with the Yankee Fork Gold Dredge and ghost towns like Custer and Bonanza nearby.

Directions

From Stanley, drive 11 miles east on Highway 75 to the Sunbeam Dam overlook. Turn left onto Yankee Fork Road (Forest Road 013) for about 3 miles. The campground is on the right.
