About

Bohemia Basin Shelter is a rustic Adirondack-style emergency shelter located on East Yakobi Island at the mouth of Bohemia Creek, on the north end of Lisianski Strait in the Tongass National Forest. The shelter sits approximately 7 miles northwest of the small community of Pelican, Alaska, and serves as the trailhead for a 4-mile primitive trail to Takanis Lake. The shelter is equipped with a wood stove, sleeping bunks, and a food preparation table. An outside deck with an accessible ramp provides access to a rock fire ring with bench seating. Visitors must bring their own firewood, potable water, and all supplies, as no services are provided. There are no restroom facilities on site. Access is exclusively by floatplane or boat to a small dock and gangway managed by the City of Pelican. The shelter is available for recreational use on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservations required, making it ideal for kayakers, hunters, and anglers exploring this remote corner of Southeast Alaska.
