About

Bluestone Lake Picnic Shelter is a popular day-use recreation area located near the shores of Bluestone Lake in southern West Virginia, operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. With a capacity of up to 100 guests, the facility is particularly popular among Little League Baseball groups and fishing enthusiasts. The accessible picnic shelter comes equipped with electric and water hookups, restrooms, and 12 picnic tables that seat approximately 75 people. The area features extensive recreational amenities including a baseball field, basketball court, horseshoe pits, playground, and playing fields. Ample parking is available on a first-come, first-served basis, and the facility closes at 10 p.m. daily. Alcohol is prohibited at the park. Bluestone Lake's 2,040 acres of water provide excellent opportunities for boating, water skiing, and fishing. The New River is considered the best warm water fishery in West Virginia, producing more citation game fish than any other warm water river in the state. Anglers can target smallmouth bass, white bass, striped bass, bluegill, catfish, crappie, and muskellunge. A boat ramp, dock, pier, and marina are a short drive away. The area offers scenic views of West Virginia's third largest lake surrounded by thick forests, and the nearby Bluestone Lake Wildlife Management Area provides hunting opportunities for wild turkey, white-tailed deer, and various small game.
