About

Birch Grove Recreation Area is a family favorite for exploring the Bayfield Peninsula, nestled between 22-acre East Twin Lake and 16-acre West Twin Lake in the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest. Located just 8 miles west of Washburn, this campground provides a peaceful base camp for outdoor recreation. The campground offers 16 single-family campsites including two double sites, each with a defined parking spur, fire ring, and picnic table. Some sites feature tent pads and can accommodate RVs up to 35 feet. Both lakes offer small boat access for non-motorized watercraft and fishing opportunities for bass, panfish, and northern pike. Swimming access is available at the lakes, and a small picnic area is located near East Twin Lake. An open-sided pavilion is available for camper use. During late summer, berry picking is popular in the nearby Moquah Barrens. The campground is near Long Lake Recreation Area with its swimming beach and trail, and Valhalla Recreation Area with over 20 miles of hiking and biking trails. Sites are first-come, first-served with no advance reservations.
