Big Bay State Park Campground
Open — Currently in winter camping mode with only five plowed campsites (sites 26, 27, 28, 29, and 30) available by reservation through approximately Memorial Day weekend. These sites have electrical hookups. Showers and drinking water are unavailable during winter; a vault toilet is available near the campground entrance. Water can be found at the dump station at Madeline Island Airport. The rest of the campground is closed.

Other locations including Madeline Island and the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore. * WHEN...From this evening through Wednesday morning. * IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - Around 1 to 3 inches of rain is expected to fall over several inches of lingering snowpack along the South Shore of Lake Superior. About
Big Bay State Park Campground is located on Madeline Island, the largest of the 22 Apostle Islands in Lake Superior, accessible by ferry from Bayfield. The 2,350-acre park features picturesque sandstone bluffs, caves, and 4 miles of Lake Superior shoreline including a 1.5-mile sandy swimming beach and a 1-mile accessible boardwalk. The park encloses unique habitat types including bogs, barrier beaches, boreal forest, and old-growth hemlock within a State Natural Area. The family campground offers 60 campsites with 21 electrical hookup sites and 7 walk-in tent sites located 100 to 400 feet from parking. Centrally located flush toilets and showers serve the campground during the main season. Winter camping is available at five plowed sites (26-30) with electrical hookups. The park also features an outdoor group camp located about a half-mile from the regular campground with its own hand pump and vault toilet. Pets are welcome on leashes no longer than 8 feet.
Directions
Accessible by ferry from Bayfield. The park is located 7 miles from the Madeline Island ferry landing on the eastern side of the island.
