About

Big Pine Campground is a rustic camping destination nestled in the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest, approximately 12 miles from the Merlin/Galice Road via Forest Road 25. This remote campground offers 12 campsites suitable for both tents and trailers, set among a beautiful forested landscape. The campground is historically significant as the home of what was once recognized as the world's tallest ponderosa pine tree, which stood nearly 260 feet tall before succumbing to bark beetles. The area provides moderate-use camping opportunities with basic amenities. Sites are equipped with picnic tables and fire pits for traditional camping experiences. During operating seasons, the campground provides vault toilet facilities and trash service. The location offers convenient access to numerous hiking opportunities, including the Big Pine Interpretive Loop Trail, Briggs Creek Trail, Taylor Creek Trail, Onion Way Trail, Secret Way Trail, and Dutchy Creek Trail, making it an excellent base for exploring the surrounding wilderness. The campground operates under a 14-day maximum stay limit with quiet hours enforced between 10 p.m. and 8 a.m. Dogs are permitted but must be kept on leash, and OHV/ATV use is prohibited within the campground. The remote location and rustic setting provide a peaceful escape for campers seeking a more primitive national forest experience.
